Bio
Based in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, George Westerholm & The Wild Wildcats are one of North America’s top garage rock’n’roll-abilly and instrumental twang combos.
George Westerholm’s predilection for guitar instros and rural rhythms is nothing new. It featured prominently in his previous group, Sinphonic, known for their addictive mix of surf, rockabilly, punk, ska and “suave garage.”
The Wild Wildcats originated a few years ago when George and Chris Bennett met. Together, they recorded a snappy collection of vocal and instrumental cuts called This. Drummer James Clark and bassist Jeff Dunk joined them to shake up venues such as The Cadillac Lounge, C’est What? and Cherry Cola's as well as ripping it up at several Great Lakes Surf Battles. The Wild Wildcats have shared stages with Mark Malibu & The Wasagas, Nuclear Juarez, The Leather Uppers, The Blue Demons, The Green Reflectors, The Hellbent Rockers, Los Speedos, Stark Naked & The Fleshtones, Luau or Die and many more.
As well as George on guitar and vocals, the current lineup of The Wild Wildcats features Sean Sewell on guitar, Steve Fantaske on bass and Tim Foy on drums. Their fun, energetic and danceable sets consist mainly of original vocal and instrumental pieces. But they also occasionally include well-chosen and highly individual covers of favourites by Ian Dury, Devo, Shocking Blue, Charlie Rich, Ray Charles and others. For several years, they have been blowing off the roof at venues like Lee’s Palace, The Painted Lady and The Bovine. In addition to this, they have lit up the Upper Deck Marina concert series and Canadian Music Week events, and heated up the Grilled Cheese Challenge Festival!
George Westerholm & The Wild Wildcats’ latest release, Hot and Ready, is an exhilarating selection of original rompin’ rock’n’roll tunes and twangy instrumentals. It includes highly infectious rockabilly tracks such as “Poor You,” “All Messed Up” and “High Voltage.” If you act fast, you can still grab a copy of the vinyl LP! The cut “Old Motel,” from the album, was picked by Double Crown Records for inclusion on the CD accompanying issue #27 of The Continental magazine
George’s music has been used in film, television and fashion shows. When he is not busy rockin’ and twangin’ with The Wild Wildcats, he can be found paying homage to The Cramps with The Cramp City Devils, cranking out power pop tunes with The Flash Bangs or doing stand-up comedy at venues throughout Canada and worldwide.
George Westerholm and The Wild Wildcats use exclusively whatever gear they can get their hands on.
